This year, the popular size 205\/55 R16 was tested, as we described <a href=\"\/magpost\/3541\">in the previous article<\/a>. This size is suitable for VW Golf, among many other cars in this class.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From this selection, 20 tires advanced to the finale and were tested very thoroughly and comprehensively. As always, it was shown that the braking distance test does not determine the final ranking, but it can provide a relatively reliable indicator of tire quality because the final results were very close &#8211; 4 tires earned a &#8220;exemplary&#8221; rating, another 12 received a &#8220;good&#8221; rating, and 4 a &#8220;satisfactory&#8221; rating. The worst performer was the conditionally recommended <a href=\"\/vredestein-ultrac\">Vredestein Ultrac<\/a> tire, due to its very poor longevity &#8211; according to Auto Bild&#8217;s measurements, it lasts only 15,400 km, whereas the best-performing Goodyear can last nearly 3 times as much until the end of its lifespan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thetirelab.com\/mag\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/image-1-1024x683.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3612\" srcset=\"https:\/\/testshin.net.ua\/mag\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/image-1-1024x683.png 1024w, https:\/\/testshin.net.ua\/mag\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/image-1-300x200.png 300w, https:\/\/testshin.net.ua\/mag\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/image-1-768x512.png 768w, https:\/\/testshin.net.ua\/mag\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/image-1-1536x1024.png 1536w, https:\/\/testshin.net.ua\/mag\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/image-1.png 1920w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>Goodyear Efficientgrip Performance 2<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Overall, however, most tires fell short on their longevity &#8211; especially the cheaper ones, despite the fact that among the rated parameters is the lifespan compared to the price, which should partly favor cheaper tires. Lifespan issues worsened the rankings for <a href=\"\/falken-ziex-ze310-ecorun\/\">Falken<\/a>, <a href=\"\/hankook-ventus-prime-4\">Hankook<\/a>, and <a href=\"\/toyo-proxes-comfort\/\">Toyo<\/a>, which otherwise belong among the best in wet and dry conditions. The same happened to <a href=\"\/pirelli-cinturato-p7-c2\/\">Pirelli<\/a> and <a href=\"\/nexen-n-fera-primus\/\">Nexen<\/a>, which ended up at the bottom of the starting field &#8211; Nexen lasts only 19,450 km, and Pirelli 24,900 km, however, they are among the more expensive tires in the test.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Regarding driving characteristics, <a href=\"\/maxxis-premitra-hp5\/\">Maxxis Premitra HP5<\/a> performed worst in the wet due to handling and safety, and <a href=\"\/uniroyal-rainsport-5\">Uniroyal Rainsport 5<\/a> also performed poorly in dry conditions due to handling. Paradoxically, Dunlop Sport BluResponse, despite performing relatively poorly in the wet, compensates with its longevity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, some deficiencies in wet conditions were also found in the 4th ranked <a href=\"\/goodyear-efficientgrip-performance-2\/\">Goodyear Efficient Grip Performance 2<\/a>, which received an &#8220;Eco master&#8221; rating, fully acknowledging the aforementioned longevity. Even so, it is not the choice for those who prioritize driving characteristics above all.
